Iowa and Illinois are set for a massive Big Ten clash.

The Big Ten is a beast again with the potential of double-digit bids to the NCAA Tournament. Two of the league’s best are set to square off in one of the week’s best games as Iowa hits the road for a tough matchup against Illinois.

The Hawkeyes have flirted with a top seed for most of the season but suffered a setback in their last game by falling to Indiana at home last week. The Hoosiers knocked off Iowa by a dozen points, a shocking outcome that was due in large part to an off night shooting from the Hawkeyes’ role players.

Luka Garza still got his points, pouring in 28 on 10-of-22 shooting, but the Hawkeyes were just 5-of-23 from beyond the arc. The defeat was Iowa’s second in conference play and they had to stew in it for a week after their weekend matchup with Nebraska was postponed due to COVID-19 issues in the Cornhuskers’ program.

Illinois enters this matchup off a similar layoff but with a win in their last outing. Picking up a 14-point win over Penn State helped the Fighting Illini snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 6-3 in conference play.

Kofi Cockburn carried the mail for the Illini in the victory, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to control the paint against the Nittany Lions. This game could well come down to the matchup on the interior as Cockburn will try to hold his own against Garza, the front-runner for the National Player of the Year awards.
