The Dolphins want to build around Tua Tagovailoa this offseason. Targeting these five free agents will help Miami do just that.

Miami’s offseason began with some consternation over whether or not Tua Tagovailoa deserved to be considered the team’s quarterback of both the present and future. It appears that answer has been answered. Now it’s time for the Dolphins to surround the talented southpaw with the weapons required to succeed in 2021.

That doesn’t mean next season is playoffs or bust for head coach Brian Flores. Instead, the true measure of Miami’s campaign should be based on just how much development they coax out of Tagovailoa. Finishing with an 8-8 record with zero reservations about Tua moving forward would be far superior to sneaking into the postseason at 9-7 without any clarity at the game’s most important position.

The Dolphins will continue their efforts to build through the draft in April, but free agency will be a big focus for the franchise as well. Look for Miami to zero in on the five following targets on the open market.

5. K.J. Wright

The Dolphins defense could benefit from the addition of a quality veteran like Wright to their linebacking corps. He’s no longer the star he was during the prime of his career in Seattle, but he still has enough juice left to be a quality starter on the strong side.

Moving to a base 3-4 alignment might give Wright the freedom required to really thrive. He’s still got outstanding instincts at the linebacker position. Miami shouldn’t break the bank to pay the big-name veteran, but landing him on a short-term reasonable deal would be a coup for the Dolphins.
