5. Brian Thomas Jr., WR, 4-star

Prediction: LSU Tigers

The top-rated wide receiver who remains unsigned, Brian Thomas Jr. is a top-100 overall prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle and stands as the No. 13-ranked player at his position. When you look at the Walker, LA native, it’s not difficult to see why the pass-catcher is so highly touted as he enters the college football landscape.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 185 pounds, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that he was also a basketball standout in high school who could potentially play in college as well. But that background is evident on the football field with his ability to make athletic plays on the ball with great hands. He’s not a burner by any stretch but he’s a fluid athlete that knows how to win on all levels and in all situations.

Though he’s been highly sought after by virtually every big program in the SEC, it does appear as though his decision will come down to either the LSU Tigers or the Alabama Crimson Tide. And when it comes time to put pen to paper, my bet is on Ed Orgeron keeping the talented wide receiver in the state.

We saw last year that the Tide were able to poach some Louisiana recruits from the Tigers and that can’t happen again, especially for this type of prospect. LSU has produced some high-level wideouts with similar builds to Thomas in recent years and they should be making a heavy push to make sure he doesn’t get out of the Bayou Bengals’ sights.
