The team has finished in the AFC South basement three consecutive years.

It’s been quite the fall from grace for a team that in 2017 was 15 playing minutes away from a Super Bowl appearance. Those Jacksonville Jaguars squandered a 20-10 lead at Foxborough and lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC title game. And it’s been not only downhill ever since, the 2020 season was an outright disaster

The club kicked off the year by surprising the visiting Colts, 27-20. That proved to be the Jaguars’ lone victory of the season as the club will enter 2021 riding a 15-game losing streak

The franchise will also enter the next season with a new head coach in college legend Urban Meyer. The club also has plenty of salary cap room (see Spotrac) as well as numerous draft choices – including multiple selections in the first (Nos. 1 and 25) and second round. So what areas will the team address with veterans?

5. DT Davon Godchaux (Miami Dolphins)

For any numbers of years, he was a steady presence on a defensive unit that had its share of issues on a yearly basis. And unfortunately for him and head coach Brian Flores, his 2020 season ended via a biceps injury suffered against the 49ers at San Francisco in Week 5. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux finished the year with 16 stops.

In each of the previous two seasons, he was a 16-game starter and in ’19, rolled up 75 tackles and a pair of sacks. The 2017 fifth-round draft choice could return to South Florida. But if the team lets him test the free-agent market in March, Godchaux would be an asset to a Jacksonville defense that gave up the third-most rushing yards in the league in ’20.
