Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa recently shed some light on a softer side of Nick Saban that the average fan doesn’t get to see.

Alabama football coach Nick Saban has a reputation for being a hard-nosed disciplinarian. That isn’t wrong as it’s been the foundation to his success that has seen him win seven national championships, including six at Alabama.

But according to former Crimson Tide quarterback and current Miami Dolphin Tua Tagovailoa says that there’s a softer side of Saban that the general public doesn’t get to see.

Tua revealed there’s a softer side of Nick Saban most fans don’t get to see

On ESPN’s Greeny hosted by Mike Greenberg, Tagovailoa said Saban really knows how to ‘turn off’ his coaching personality, something a lot of coaches can’t do.

Tua made it clear that on-the-field and off-the-field Saban are totally different.

“I think being able to play for someone like coach Saban, it gives you two sides,” said Tagovailoa. “It gives you someone who’s very hard on you. Someone who expects the best out of you. Then the other side where you get someone who is very caring. Very loving for his players. That’s who coach Saban was. On the field, he was very hard. He expected the best out of his players. He expected the best out of you.”

This is something Saban’s players and assistant coaches have long said. It’s not a side that’s always shown to the media or during games, but when you’re playing LSU or Georgia or in the College Football Playoff, it doesn’t lend itself to being soft and cuddly at that time.

It makes sense though. Saban yields results by getting the best out of his players on and off the field. His relationships are why he wins and why he recruits at a high level.
