Steelers  Head Coach Mike Tomlin doesn’t seem to have changed his approach at all with his new hires after a disappointing season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers ended the 2020 season in disappointing fashion having made a first-round exit in the playoffs after initially starting the season 11-0. They finished the season 1-4 and absolutely imploded once again.

Since their Wild Card round loss to Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers have been making moves in an attempt to either rebuild or retool for next seasons. Fans can’t possibly know which of those the Steelers are trying to do at this point.

Head coach Mike Tomlin caught some heat after making crucial mistakes in the game that ultimately ended Pittsburgh’s season. It’s got to sting even more knowing that former Steelers players will have a chance to compete for Super Bowl titles this Sunday. Since then, all eyes have been on Tomlin and the decisions he’s chosen to make to right the ship in Pittsburgh.

Mike Tomlin making questionable decisions for Steelers coaching staff hires

Whether it was up to him or not, a good bit of Tomlin’s coaching staff won’t be returning to Steel City next season. Along with offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner, the Steelers have announced since the loss the departure of offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett, defensive backs coach Tom Bradley and long-time tight ends coach James Daniel.

In an attempt to correct these moves Pittsburg promoted Matt Canada, the former Steelers quarterback coach to replace Randy Fichtner as offensive coordinator. They also promoted assistant offensive line coach Adrian Klemm to replace his boss Shaun Sarrett.

It doesn’t really make sense to promote people from within if what you’ve been doing in the past hasn’t been working but maybe Tomlin and the Pittsburgh front office know something that the rest of us don’t. It doesn’t seem like they are considering many fresh perspectives on why they can’t seem to get back to a Super Bowl and have instead chosen to reward those within the organization for subpar results.

Fans have to be discouraged about the team’s moves so far this offseason. We’ll have to keep an eye on other moves and of course of Ben Roethlisberger’s future with the team.
