North Carolina will look to pick up its fourth straight win against Clemson.
The ACC has been an adventure this year as the league looks to improve after a rough 2019-20 season. There are a solid eight or nine teams at least on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament, making matchups like tonight’s game between North Carolina and Clemson important in the long run.
The Tar Heels have had a largely uneventful year to date, winning the games they should and failing to earn a single marquee victory to this point. Roy Williams’ team has won three straight games but the best win of the bunch came against a Pittsburgh team that is 8-5 overall and just 4-4 in conference play.
Wins are still wins, however, and they have been hard to come by over the past several weeks for the Tigers. Clemson has watched a dream season turn into a nightmare as a hot start has evaporated with losses in four of their last five games.
Saturday’s game at Duke was a complete disaster as the Tigers were essentially dominated from start to finish. A low-wattage offense has killed Clemson’s chances to compete with elite competition as evidenced by recent blowouts against top ACC schools like Virginia and Florida State.
Finding a way to stop the bleeding is critical for the Tigers, who can absolutely win this game against a North Carolina team that plays at a slower tempo more to Clemson’s liking. This game would also be a bad one to lose for the Tar Heels with a trip to resurgent Duke on tap for Saturday.
