Raiders are shopping Derek Carr in a possible Deshaun Watson 3-team trade

Derek Carr could reportedly be on the move this offseason in a trade that could land the Raiders a star in Deshaun Watson.

The Deshaun Watson sweepstakes are going to be the story of the NFL offseason until a trade is made. That could even last well into the season.

Nearly every team should have some interest in Watson and the Las Vegas Raiders are the latest to show up in the rumor mill. Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal had a report detailing how Carr’s name has come up in trade talks. He takes it a step further by explaining how a Carr trade could land the Raiders Watson.

A potential blockbuster involving Carr and Watson

“For that to happen, the Raiders would have to receive two first-round picks for Carr, which they would then package with their own first-rounders in 2021 and 2022 to present a compelling offer of four first-round picks to the Texans for Watson, who has reportedly asked be traded,” Bonsignore explained.

He claims sources have explained how this plan could work and the key here is a third team sending the Raiders two first-round picks for Carr. The Raiders would then have four upcoming first-round picks to send to Houston, while a few active players would likely have to go as well.

Is Carr worth two first-rounders? He just threw for 4,103 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2020. The yardage mark was a new personal best. The Los Angeles Rams just sent two first-round picks and Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford. That move reset the market this offseason and explains why insider sources may believe Carr could easily fetch two top picks.

Carr has two years remaining on his deal and his dead cap drops to $0 in 2022. Any team giving up two first-rounders for him would likely want to sign him to an extension sooner than later. The Raiders would have to find a team that believes enough in Carr to make such a strong offer.

Finding that team may not be as difficult as convincing the Texans to make a trade. The front office and Watson are at a standstill and it is possible they simply refuse to trade him. That would be insane, but it would lead to the Raiders and other teams potentially waiting a lot of time this offseason while other organizations settle the quarterback position early.
