Pittsburgh Steelers legend Franco Harris has ideas on how the organization can go out and help Ben Roethlisberger.

As of right now, Pittsburgh Steelers fans everywhere are waiting to see what the future has in store for Ben Roethlisberger. The future Hall-of-Famer has made it quite clear he wants to return next season to close out his contract, but Pittsburgh wants him to take a pay cut.

Should the two sides restructure his deal, It’s looking like Roethlisberger indeed will be back at Heinz Field in 2021 in hopes of leading the team back to the Super Bowl. In order for that to happen, though, there’s no denying Roethlisberger needs some help. If you ask team legend and Hall-of-Fame fullback Franco Harris, it’s easy to see where that help needs to come from.

Franco Harris wants the Steelers to get the running game going to help out Ben Roethlisberger

In a one-on-one conversation with FanSided’s Mark Carman, Harris essentially begged for the team to establish the run game moving forward. That will take loads of pressure off Roethlisberger and his soon to be 39-year-old right arm.

“The part where Ben needs help is in the running game to take some things off of him and our passing game,” Harris said. “We need to get that running game going working to where the running game can make big plays and make things happen. We need that balance.

“Some teams have that balance. You look at Tennessee — I feel Cleveland came in here and beat us in the playoff game and they had a better balance. We have to get that running game going.”

Harris is not wrong.

In that Wild Card Round loss to the Browns, Roethlisberger threw for 501 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions. The fact that he attempted 68 passes is an absolute joke. James Conner led the Steelers running backs with 37 yards on 11 carries. In total, Pittsburgh rushed for 52 yards. That’s simply not going to cut it.

Being one of the best fullbacks of all-time, of course, Harris is going to want to see plays made on the ground. At the same time, Pittsburgh has relied too much on Roethlisberger’s arm in the past and that can’t be the case with him flirting with 40.

If the Steelers want to make Harris and the rest of the fans out there happy, they really should bring in some running back help as soon as possible.
