Brett Favre’s take on Deshaun Watson’s trade request is the height of hypocrisy given the former quarterback’s own NFL history.

When it comes to takes on Deshaun Watson requesting a trade out of Houston because of a deteriorating relationship with management, Brett Favre hit the hypocritical bullseye.

Favre spoke to Yahoo Sportsbook earlier this week about Watson demanding a trade, calling himself “old-school” on these matters.

Maybe Favre would have been more on board with Watson’s opinion if he’d gone about forcing a trade the way Favre did.

Brett Favre should look in the mirror before criticizing Deshaun Watson

Remember, the former Packer retired, un-retired, publicly blasted Green Bay for not honoring his request for a release from the contract he was still locked into, then made enough of a fuss to eventually get his way via a trade to the New York Jets.

Favre didn’t let how much money he was making stop him from having an opinion on the Green Bay Packers‘ decisions regarding Aaron Rodgers. Instead of letting “the chips fall where they may” in an open competition with the younger QB, he did everything he needed to leave.

Simply put, the money Watson makes should have no bearing on his desire to be traded. If he ends up sitting out to force a trade, would that really be any different than the retirement that Favre did?

Loyalty to a franchise shouldn’t be blind just because they gave you a contract worth your value. Every other team in the league would have paid Watson just as much if they had the chance.

Watson is unhappy in his current situation, and it’s up to the Houston Texans to make it right. The solution is to either do a better job of meeting their quarterbacks’ needs or cash in on him via a trade.
