Dez Bryant was quick to call out Brett Favre after his comments about Deshaun Watson.

Brett Favre said a very stupid thing.

The Hall of Farmer was asked what he thought about Deshaun Watson’s situation with the Houston Texans, and how the young gunslinger is using his clout to force an exit. The elder gunslinger gave perhaps the most out-of-touch response someone tangentially connected to football could have given.

“You get paid a ton of money to do a certain job, and just do it and let the chips fall where they may. I think we make too much money to voice an opinion, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. Again, I think it’s a different day and time.”

Backlash to Favre’s comment was swift, with most pointing out how steeped in irony his statement was. Favre infamously soiled a decade-plus long relationship with the Packers by forcing his way out of Green Bay when it became clear that Aaron Rodgers was going to replace him as the starter.

One player who took exception to Favre’s two-faced statement was former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.

In responding to the comments, Dez noted that this sort of thing is why he has proverbially burned his Favre jersey.

The sentiment that Bryant has was shared by almost anyone with a working knowledge of the last 15 years of football history.

Rather than let the chips fall where they may, as Favre suggested Watson do, the Hall of Farmer dragged everyone on a journey back in 2008 that featured a retirement, an un-retirement, a trade to the New York Jets and eventually a stint with the rival Minnesota Vikings.

For what it’s worth, the stint with the Vikings was largely seen as Favre flipping the bird across the border to Wisconsin and twisting the knife in the most painful way he knew he could.

Favre’s chips didn’t so much fall as they were flung around the room in a tantrum.

Watson is also in a situation unlike the one Favre found himself in. Favre had arrived at the natural conclusion every single NFL legend finds themselves at. Watson is trying to find his way off the Titanic before it snaps in half, as the Texans have created a situation in which Watson can either escape or continue to waste the best years of his career for an organization that clearly doesn’t value his talents.
