Kansas City Chiefs offensive guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif made it clear he has no regrets opting out of the season to help out with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from repeating as Super Bowl champions. Yes, life is good for the Kansas City faithful. With Patrick Mahomes leading the way, the offense has looked downright unstoppable.

With that being said, one guy who won’t be on the field this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is offensive guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. As a matter of fact, he’s been out the whole season after he decided to opt out in order to work the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic. With his team on the verge of repeating as champs, Duvernay-Tardif made it more than clear he has no regrets.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif will be ready to support his teammates on Sunday in the Super Bowl

In a conversation with Terez Paylor of Yahoo! Sports, Duvernay said he’s spoken with Chiefs players and head coach Andy Reid, and they continue to support him for making his decision.

“It means a lot because to be honest, when I made that decision, I felt like I was letting my team down,” Duvernay-Tardif told Yahoo! Sports. “And I was to a certain extent, you know? So feeling the support from coach Reid, from the guys, not only over the phone but also in the media and press conferences, it really means a lot. It’s what the team is all about.”

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound lineman was the first player to opt out of the 2020 campaign, but he most certainly wasn’t the last. Duvernay-Tardif decided to work at a long-term care facility in the Montreal area to fight the pandemic.

While he might at times miss the battles in the trenches with opposing defensive linemen, the Chiefs know at the end of the day he made the right decision. Now, we’ll see if Kansas City can go out and get the job done against the Buccaneers to wrap up another incredible season.
