Sports Science’s John Brenkus always knew Patrick Mahomes could reach GOAT status
By Mark Powell
The analytics were always in favor of Patrick Mahomes becoming the best QB in the NFL.
John Brenkus has either met with or analyzed the play of the greatest athletes of the past two decades as the lead producer of Sports Science, which has aired on both FOX and ESPN. As the popularity of the show has grown, Brenkus has been blessed with the opportunity to diagnose greatness for free, with athletes from every sport volunteering for a chance to learn about what makes them elite.
The NFL is no exception. In the pre-draft process, Brenkus worked with the likes of Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Mahomes, with the Texas Tech product sticking out due to his consistency in all measurements.
Super Bowl 55: Patrick Mahomes ascending to the greatest of all-time
“When we had Patrick Mahomes in the lab…I said ‘not only is he the best quarterback in the draft, he’s the best quarterback I’ve ever analyzed,'” Brenkus revealed to FanSided’s Mark Carman. “I put him through every single test, and he was crushing every single test you could possibly imagine.”
Brenkus went on to compliment Mahomes on his versatility. While the Chiefs QB may not be the fastest, or possess the strongest arm in football, he’s above-average in enough of the categories which make a great quarterback that he’s clearly on a path to greatness.
“When you factor in all the things he can do, and you factor in that he’s really smart, he’s a great leader…and you’re like ‘this guy has everything,'” Brenkus continued. “God willing he stays healthy, I think he goes down as the greatest quarterback ever and I said that the second he stepped into the lab. Everyone thought I was drunk.”
The six-time Emmy winner has worked with the likes of Jerry Rice, Ray Lewis, Ben Roethlisberger and other Hall-of-Fame talents. Such praise puts Mahomes in great company, with many more accomplishments to come.
Brenkus spoke to FanSided on behalf of Brinx.TV, which is launching the ultimate Super Bowl party. The ultimate virtual party will begin Sunday at 2pm PT/5pm ET. The innovative predictive gaming platform will give viewers a chance to win $1000 a minute every minute of game time, and will include featured appearances from the likes of Trent Dilfer, Ray Lewis, The Draft Network’s Paige Dimakos and Jake Arians (son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians), John Brenkus, and more.
