Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs blew a golden opportunity in Super Bowl 55.

Despite being the favorites to win Super Bowl 55, the Kansas City Chiefs came out and laid an egg vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, losing a laugher, 31-9.

With this Super Bowl victory, Tom Brady has achieved magnificent No. 7 in his illustrious career. While this was a home game for the Buccaneers, they were getting points as the underdog. But if you give Brady and one of his teams an edge, that could be the worst thing to ever happen to you. Tampa Bay played fantastically, but Kansas City could not have looked worse on Sunday.

Chiefs made three critical mistakes that cost them Super Bowl 55

3. Eric Bieniemy and the offense’s inability to address Tampa Bay pass rush

This was the on-going problem throughout. The Chiefs were down their two starting offensive tackles in Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz for the ball game. While there was not a ton they could have done to contain the relentless Tampa Bay pass rush, Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy made no offensive adjustments whatsoever, ragdolling Patrick Mahomes in the process.

2. Charvarius Ward’s holding penalty on Tyrann Mathieu’s would-be interception

There were two sequences that absolutely killed the Chiefs. Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu had a pick of Brady that would have put the Chiefs in terrific field position. Unfortunately, cornerback Charvarius Ward got flagged for a holding penalty. This gave the ball back to the Buccaneers. Brady would find tight end Rob Gronkowski for what would be the game-winning touchdown.

1. Andy Reid’s clock management in final minute of the first half

It was inevitable because this is what Reid does. He could teach a class on what not to do in football clock management. The Buccaneers got the ball back with 61 seconds left in the first half. They marched down the field in 55 seconds to score a touchdown to make it 21-6 at the half. Reid called three (!!) timeouts.

The game was lost at that point, but this was the nail in the coffin.

Overall, the Chiefs could not have been more flat in this ball game. This was a team that had only lost twice during the regular season. They have suffered their worst loss of the Mahomes era. It was a combination of poor execution, poor decision-making and an abysmal game plan.

This game should have been an all-timer and instead we got a blowout that nobody saw coming and should have never happened.
