Myles Garrett needs more help if the Browns are going to build a dominant NFL pass rush. That’s why spending a second-rounder on an intriguing edge prospect makes a lot of sense for the Browns.

Perkins has some concerning issues when it comes to holding up against the run, but there are no reasonable questions about his ability to get to the quarterback. He’s got the perfect combination of size, speed, and power to torment NFL tackles on the edge.

The former Oklahoma star demonstrates a lot of strike power at the point of attack. That helps him knock opposing lineman off their spots before they can really get into their pass blocking sets. Perkins’ ability to win that battle almost instantly is what produces a lot of his pressures.

Long-term, the Browns will need to spend serious time with Perkins to help him understand the intricacies of playing against NFL rushing attacks. As a rookie, they can fully expect him to be an above-average pass-rusher. That’s why they should gamble on him despite his lack of versatility at the moment.
