8 quarterbacks not named Carson Wentz the Bears should acquire
By John Buhler
Acquiring the most underrated quarterback in the league will make you a winner
People dunk on Derek Carr way too much. He has been a stabilizing presence for the Silver and Black since being taken in the second round out of Fresno State in 2014. One could argue he is the best quarterback in his draft class. While the Raiders have only made the playoffs once with him under center, it has not been his fault for the franchise’s consistent inconsistencies.
Playing in a harsh northern climate may not be ideal for the California native, but Carr is a tough player and relentless competitor. This is a guy who loves to distribute the ball all around the field and is not afraid to make a few plays with his legs. He is a multi-time Pro Bowler who has been able to elevate the offensive talent around in him Oakland/Las Vegas for several years now.
It is never the wrong time to do the right thing
If the Bears could do it all over again, they would have stayed at No. 3 and not given up anything to the 49ers for Trubisky. What they should have done was take Deshaun Watson out of Clemson University with that top-three selection. Instead, he has spent the last four seasons winning a ton of games in utter dysfunction with the Houston Texans. Do whatever it takes and go get your guy.
While all seven other quarterbacks listed can absolutely have success with the Bears, Watson is the only guy who has the chance to be the best quarterback in the division, now and in the future. Aaron Rodgers may still be playing at an MVP level for the Green Bay Packers, but Watson would easily be the second-best quarterback in the division, possibly first if Rodgers regresses a tad.
Overall, the only thing the Bears cannot do this offseason is roll with Trubisky again. It will mean that ownership and the front office did not learn a damn thing from the last four years. While trading for Wentz could have its upside, the Bears do not need to bid against themselves.
