2021 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears 7-round mock
A significant portion of the Bears’ quarterback struggles in 2020 can be attributed to their inability to protect their signal-callers. That makes securing a talented tackle a wise strategy for Chicago in Round 3.
Mayfield won’t enter the NFL as the most experienced prospect in the world, but he’s got every athletic gift required to grow into a quality starter. The majority of his snaps at Michigan occurred on the right side, but he’s got a chance to move to the left side if Chicago wants to invest the time.
At worst, he projects as a guy who can be a quality starter in short order on the right. He can use his long frame to keep opposing edge rushers at bay. When he’s asked to move forward as a run blocker he successfully leverages his big body to move defenders backwards at a rapid rate.
Mayfield is one prospect that’s going to be hurt by the abbreviated pre-draft process caused by the current global pandemic. He could have really risen up teams’ boards if he were permitted to hit the workout circuit. As it stands, someone will have a chance to steal him in the middle rounds.
