Darius Slay’s hilarious story about coming face to face with DK Metcalf is the respectful and lighthearted anecdote the NFL needs.

What’s it like to face Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf on the football field? Eagles cornerback Darius Slay found out in 2020 and had a doozie of a story to tell about it.

Slay jumped on social media on Sunday night and started talking about how Philadelphia defensive end Brandon Graham apparently angered the 6-foot-4 behemoth before their November meeting. Metcalf vowed to take it out on the corner.

It didn’t end well at all for Slay, whose 6-foot stature already put him at a disadvantage.

Have a listen because only Slay can do the telling justice.

As it turns out, someone identified exactly the play Slay described. It’s an even better visual.

Slay ended up with nine tackles in the game, while Metcalf absolutely destroyed the Eagles secondary with 10 catches for 177 yards as the Seahawks won 23-17.

Darius Slay’s honesty and respect for DK Metcalf was refreshing and hilarious

It’s cool to get a genuine and lighthearted perspective on the battles that take place on a football field. Serious stuff happens between the sidelines, but it’s all for the game. When you bring an attitude to the table like Slay, it’s better for everyone.

The reaction of other pros to the story was awesome. Metcalf even responded with pure respect.

Stefon Diggs of the Vikings weighed in too.

So long as Slay plays for the Eagles and Metcalf for the Seahawks, they won’t get to matchup in 2021. A surprise playoff meeting could technically materialize.

Slay is entering his ninth year in the league. He spent his first seven seasons in Detroit, where he was named All-Pro once and a Pro Bowler three times.

Metcalf just picked up his first Pro Bowl selection in 2020. He was seventh in the league with 1,303 yards and eighth with 10 touchdowns in his second season with Seattle.
