5. Super Bowl 56 favorites – Los Angeles Rams

There is no question that the big Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff swap significantly boosted Los Angeles’ chances of winning a Super Bowl. The long term price of the trade could haunt the Rams in a few years but all Sean McVay cares about right now is trying to win with his loaded roster.

The Rams rebounded from a lost 2019 season to get all the way to the Divisional Round, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Donald was playing hurt in that game, which was a significant factor, but McVay showed how good of a coach he is by getting his team through two playoff rounds while Goff was playing through a fractured thumb.

Goff had clearly hit his ceiling with the Rams, making the deal for Stafford a necessary addition to try and win a Super Bowl. Stafford inherits a deep group of offensive weapons and can make all the deep throws necessary to run the intricate crossing patterns that McVay loves to use to confuse opposing defenses.

Los Angeles’ defense is also elite as Donald and Jalen Ramsey rate among the best players at their respective positions in the league. Getting out of the stacked NFC West will be tough but the Rams should be peaking by the postseason.
