Wrigley Field set to host Northwestern vs. Purdue football game in 2021

The Northwestern Wildcats will host the Purdue Boilermakers at Wrigley Field in November.

We will have a college football game played at Wrigley Field this season, as Pat Fitzgerald’s Northwestern Wildcats will host Brian Brohm’s Purdue Boilermakers on Nov. 20.

This is only the second time at college game at the Friendly Confines since 1938. Northwestern played a game at Wrigley back in 2010. This is a great opportunity for Northwestern football fans, and Purdue football fans for that matter, to see a Big Ten West rivalry game take place at one of the most iconic venues in North American sports. This is a big opportunity for both teams involved.

Northwestern football will play more games at Wrigley Field in the future

What is cool about Northwestern getting Purdue to play the Wildcats at Wrigley instead of Evanston is that it makes up for last year’s game being taken off the books. Northwestern was slated to face another Big Ten West rival in the Wisconsin Badgers, but then COVID-19 happened. The Wildcats went on to win the Big Ten West, nearly making it into the College Football Playoff.

The good news about more Northwestern games being played at Wrigley in the future is that back in 2013, both the Chicago Cubs and Northwestern University agreed to host five football games, as well as a myriad of other athletic events at the Friendly Confines in the coming years. Ryan Field is cool and all, but this is Wrigley Field we are talking about. It helps all involved here.
