3. Chris Godwin

Godwin is arguably the No. 1 wide receiver slated to hit the open market this offseason. He’d come in higher on this list if it didn’t seem like a virtual certainty that the Buccaneers will find a way to keep him. Tampa Bay is keen to either lock him down to a lucrative new deal or use the franchise tag to keep him for one more season.

If he does end up leaving the Buccaneers, the Giants need to be ready to make a massive bid to bring him to the Big Apple. Adding him to the receiving corps would finally give Jones an All-Pro caliber wideout to work with on a weekly basis. Godwin’s ability to produce big plays and catch everything in sight would quickly make him Jones’ favorite target.

The only question about the Giants’ potential interest in Godwin is if the franchise is in a position to overpay a top-flight receiver in free agency. The chances of Godwin actually justifying his upcoming contract are relatively small. New York might be better off targeting a less established wideout who might grow into a star alongside Jones, Barkley, and the rest of the team’s young nucleus.

Ultimately, the chance to add a clear No. 1 wide receiver in free agency should convince the Giants to part with the cash required to land Godwin. He’s just the sort of difference-maker this offense needs to trouble opposing defenses moving forward.
