2021 NFL Mock Draft: Teams trading up for a franchise QB
By Brad Weiss
The Washington Football Team had one of the more inspirational stories of the 2020 NFL season, as a quarterback Alex Smith came back from a near life-threatening injury to return as their starting quarterback. While Smith was a great story, he is not the long term answer in Washington, meaning they could be in the market for a quarterback this off-season.
With the No. 19 overall pick, the Washington Football Team should choose Mac Jones from Alabama, and let him learn for a year or two under Smith. Jones put together an incredible final season for the Crimson Tide, nearly winning the Heisman, which went to teammate Devonta Smith instead.
With the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears need to do something to replace Allen Robinson. The quarterback position is still up for grabs in Chicago, as it remains to be seen what they plan to do with Mitchell Trubisky and the quarterbacks available, but whoever is under center, they need more weapons next year.
One player to keep an eye on is Rashod Bateman from Minnesota, who many believe is a top-five wideout in this draft class. Bateman is the kind of player that can come in and replicate the production of Robinson eventually, as Robinson will likely going to be one of the most sought after free-agent wide receivers this off-season.
The Indianapolis Colts have a big decision to make this offseason in terms of the quarterback position, as Philip Rivers retired after only one season in Indianapolis. Rivers was able to lead this team to the playoffs, as they have talent on both sides of the ball, but he leaves a gaping hole on offense.
One area where they need to improve on the other side of the ball is in the secondary, and they do so by bringing in South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn. This is a kid who can flat out cover on an island, and the Colts are lacking that kind of player in their defensive backfield right now.
