Stephen Curry on Patrick Mahomes: I ‘see a lot of myself in him’
By John Buhler
Stephen Curry believes in the comparisons, as he does see a lot of him in Patrick Mahomes.
Stephen Curry may be a diehard Carolina Panthers fan, but his favorite player to watch is Patrick Mahomes, probably because he plays ball in a similar way as him.
“Mahomes, for sure,” said Curry when he asked who his favorite NFL player was to watch on the latest episode of the Huddle & Flow Podcast . “See a lot of myself in him, obviously there’s been a lot of comparisons. Just that creativity, you can’t blink or you’ll miss something special. I just love his confidence, when he knows that at any point he can do something special.”
“He’s always got options. He’s got a way to make a play, using his feet or his arm, sidearm pass or whatever it is. He’s surrounded by some weapons and he knows how to use them. That guy, he’s special. He’s a generational talent, obviously. So I love watching him.”
How apt is the comparison between Stephen Curry and Patrick Mahomes?
While the 32-year-old point guard for the Golden State Warriors is a little bit older than the 25-year-old quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, their games are reminiscent to one another. Curry has made a hall-of-fame career draining 3’s nobody else would ever think to take. Similarly, Mahomes has become the best player in football with is ridiculous arm talent and creative throws.
It does not stop there. They have been named MVP and have won their league’s championship. Though Curry has won multiple NBA MVPs and NBA Finals, Mahomes is well on his way entering year five out of Texas Tech. No matter how their careers end, they will have inspired thousands upon millions of American children to go outside and play ball, all the while imitating their moves.
Few athletes play with as much joy as Curry and Mahomes do on the court and field, respectively.
