Duke basketball looks to snap a three-game losing streak when the Blue Devils take on NC State.

Selection Sunday is just over a month away and time is running out for Duke basketball to make the NCAA Tournament. A loss to Notre Dame earlier this week dropped the Blue Devils to 7-8 on the year and 5-6 in ACC play, a resume that has Duke nowhere near the NCAA Tournament bubble.

While there aren’t a ton of good wins on the Blue Devils’ resume at this point there hadn’t been any bad losses until last week, when a short-handed Miami team knocked off the Blue Devils in Coral Gables. A second bad loss came this week when a 7-10 Notre Dame team walked into Cameron Indoor Stadium and put up 93 points on Duke to win by four.

Defensive issues have plagued Mike Krzyzewski’s team all season long and there are few opportunities left for him to fix them. Picking up wins is of vital importance, making games like today’s trip to NC State a must-get for the Blue Devils.

The season as a whole has been disappointing for the Wolfpack, who have gone just 2-7 after the calendar flipped to 2021. NC State has beaten only one good team all season, upsetting North Carolina back in December, and has failed to beat a team other than Boston College or Wake Forest since then.

Today’s matchup against the Blue Devils will offer the Wolfpack an opportunity to make a statement by continuing to ruin Duke’s season. A big game from guard Devon Daniels, who has scored at least 20 points in back-to-back games, could be key as NC State looks to pick up this victory.
