Kentucky reached out to Reed Sheppard

The Kentucky Wildcats have reached out to the son of former two-time NCAA champion Jeff Sheppard.

The Kentucky Wildcats mens basketball team has not had the best of seasons, but they did end a four-game losing streak on Saturday with an 82-80 win over the Auburn Tigers. Yet, they still sit outside the AP Top 25 poll with a 6-13 record. While things are a bit doom and gloom, there is some exciting news on the recruiting front.

Former Wildcats player, two-time NCAA champion and 1998 Final Four Most Outstanding Player Jeff Sheppard said during his appearance on the Cameron Mills Radio Show on Sunday that Kentucky has reached out in regards to his son, 2023 recruit Reed. The program followed protocol by speaking through his North Laurel high school coach.

“At this point in this in Reed’s recruitment, everything is going through his high school coach,” Sheppard said, via 247Sports. “There are rules in place that prohibit coaches from contacting Reed directly, but the coaches at the University of Kentucky have acknowledged to his high school coach that they are fully aware of him and what he’s doing.”

Sheppard already receiving scholarship offers

Sheppard is currently an unranked prospect on 247Sports, but he is expected to be one of the top recruits in the nation for the 2023 class. While Kentucky does have interest, they have not given gave him an offer…yet. Schools who have sent offers Sheppard’s way include Iowa, Stetson, Iona, South Alabama and High Point.

Kentucky can directly contact Sheppard after June 15 of their sophomore season, per NCAA rules.

The sophomore guard for North Laurel has been setting stat-sheets ablaze down in London, Ky. On Jan. 29, Sheppard recorded 50 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the 84-77 win over South Laurel. On Feb. 6, the sophomore put up another stellar performance, this time scoring 54 points, dishing out nine assists and grabbing eight rebounds in North Laurel’s 98-90 win over Corbin.

For those Wildcats fans wondering if they would have interest in the son of the Jeff Sheppard, the answer is yes.
