2021 NFL Draft: Denver Broncos 7-round mock
The Broncos’ 3-4 base defensive alignment is dependent on big bodies to eat up space at the line of scrimmage. There aren’t many draft prospects bigger than Shelvin. His 6-foot-3, 360+ pound frame is tailor-made to flourish in Fangio’s defense.
Shelvin isn’t ever going to develop into a dynamic pass rusher on the inside, but he’s ready to be a plus run defender right away. He’s more than just a massive lump of human flesh that can clog up the middle with his sheer girth. Shelvin’s college tape shows him to be a solid technician who understands how to use his hands to gain a clear advantage on the interior.
Denver can deploy him at both nose tackle and defensive end depending on the down and distance. His arrival could permit the Broncos to kick DeShawn Williams outside if Shelby Harris can’t be retained. At worst, Shelvin can give Denver immediate snaps as a reserve defender on early run-downs.
Some scouts might question whether or not Shelvin has enough upside to go in Round 3, but humans with his combination of size and mobility on the interior are rare. Denver can get real value out of Shelvin at this stage of the draft.
