Los Angeles Chargers free agency 2021: Top 5 targets
1. Hunter Henry
Henry no longer seems destined to become a superstar, but he’s still comfortably one of the better starting tight ends in the league. He also happens to be the top player at his position in this year’s free agent class.
That makes the idea of keeping him an expensive proposition for Los Angeles. It still projects to be money well spent for a franchise that’s fully committed to helping their young quarterback develop.
Henry isn’t an explosive receiver in the passing game, but he’s got good size for the position. That helps him shield defenders from the ball when it’s thrown up for grabs down the field. Throw in the fact that Henry is also a competent run blocker and it’s easy to understand why he’ll attract so much interest on the open market.
Simply put, the Chargers can’t afford to let him get away. That’s why they need to allocate a significant amount of their open cap space towards keeping him in the fold. A multi-year deal paying him anything under $15 million per season would be a wise investment by Los Angeles.
