Florida football: Could Tim Tebow join Gators coaching staff?
Tim Tebow has announced his retirement from baseball and a move to coaching in Gainesville would make perfect sense.
Tim Tebow will always be a Florida Gators legend. The man is still talked about on campus and will never be forgotten. With that being said, could he end up making his way back to town in the near future as an assistant coach?
Tebow, who had less than an ideal stint in the NFL, tried his luck with the New York Mets but wasn’t able to kickstart his professional career in baseball. Now, Tebow has decided to hang up his cleats and call it a day on the diamond. So, should Dan Mullen pick up the phone and give him a call?
Tim Tebow returning to Florida as a coach makes too much sense
There may never be a person who played with more passion or energy than Tebow did while donning a Florida uniform. The man lived and breathed Gator pigskin, helping the team win the National Championship under Urban Meyer back in 2008. The year before, Tebow made history by becoming the first sophomore ever to win the Heisman Trophy.
After Florida, Tebow suited up in the NFL, but lasted two years with the Broncos and only one campaign with the Jets. He was out of the league by 2012. He then pursued his career in the big leagues, but we all know how that ended.
Despite that, Tebow has always seemed like the ideal fit as a football coach. What better place to get things started than Florida? He was a national champ there and still has an incredible relationship with the university. His presence alone would surely push the Gators players to work their tails off.
While it’s too early to tell if Tebow would even have interest in joining the Florida staff, Mullen would be foolish to not reach out and see if there’s any interest there.
