Michigan basketball: Are Wolverines out of the Chet Holmgren sweepstakes?
It’s looking more and more likely that the Michigan Wolverines won’t be able to land 5-star prospect Chet Holmgren.
Ranked a 5-star recruit and the No. 1 player in the country, center Chet Holmgren has yet to announce where he’ll be playing his college ball. The 2021 talent is expected to make his decision soon, and Michigan fans everywhere are hoping he’ll pick the Wolverines.
However, it’s looking less and less likely that will happen. The Gonzaga Bulldogs continue to make a strong impact on the Minneapolis product and the growing expectation is that the 7-footer will end up suiting up for Mark Few in Spokane.
The expectation is that Chet Holmgren will end up committing to Gonzaga
As of this writing, seven “Crystal Ball” picks on 247Sports are in for Holmgren, and every single one has him predicted to go to Gonzaga. That alone tells you that it’d be a complete and total shock if he doesn’t pick the Bulldogs.
Throughout his recruitment, Holmgren has picked up nearly 30 offers, with Gonzaga, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Memphis, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and many others. Being the top-ranked player in the country for his class, it’s easy to understand why so many schools are trying to land him.
With that said, Few and his coaches have made Holmgren a priority from the start and are in the driver’s seat to land his National Letter of Intent. It’s been quite the year for the Bulldogs, as they’re a perfect 20-0 and hold the best odds to win the National Championship. Things will only be made sweeter for them when Holmgren commits.
As for Michigan, they’re also expected to make plenty of noise when March Madness rolls around, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath on Holmgren picking them.
