Auburn football: Former Vols signee Dylan Brooks links up with Tigers

Dylan Brooks will play his his college ball for Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football team.

After being let out of his National Letter of Intent with the Tennessee football program, former Vols signee Dylan Brooks has committed to play for Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football team.

Because former Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt was fired this winter and replaced by former UCF Knights head coach Josh Heupel, the four-star outside linebacker was afforded the opportunity to get out of his NLI with Tennessee. The Roanoke, Alabama native stays in-state to play for Harsin down on The Plains. He announced he committed to Auburn on Twitter Saturday.

Tennessee just lost its best recruit from the 2021 cycle to SEC foe Auburn

According to the 247Sports Composite, Brooks is the No. 4 player from Alabama, the No. 6 player at his position group and the No. 76 overall player in his recruiting class. He had been Tennessee’s top commit. Brooks now edges out early-enrollee defensive tackle Lee Hunter (No. 80 overall) as the best recruit in Auburn’s 2021 class. Auburn is now No. 20 nationally and No. 8 in the SEC.

There is no other way to look at it. This is a tremendous pickup for Harsin and his staff. Gus Malzahn’s shocking firing had a negative impact on Auburn’s recruiting this cycle. While we know that Harsin can coach from his days at Boise State, he is in uncharted territory leading an SEC blue-blood like Auburn down on The Plains. War Eagle Nation should celebrate this commitment.

With Brooks committing to Auburn, the Tigers may have just salvaged their bad recruiting class.
