Raiders trade rumors, C.J. Mosley
EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – SEPTEMBER 08: (NEW YORK DAILIES OUT) C.J. Mosley #57 of the New York Jets in action against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium on September 08, 2019 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Bills defeated the Jets 17-16. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images) /

2. Send Mariota to the Jets in exchange for a defensive starter

The Jets’ new regime certainly isn’t married to Sam Darnold at the starting quarterback position. It’s very likely he’ll be given an opportunity for a fresh start next year. If New York offloads Darnold in a trade, then it makes total sense for them to bring in Mariotas a potential bridge to their next quarterback of the future.

The Jets should be doing everything they can to hold on to every draft pick they can. They need to accelerate their rebuild by acquiring as much young, cheap talent as possible. That should motivate New York to use a player to acquire Mariota rather than a draft asset.

C.J. Mosley is a veteran who doesn’t fit New York’s timeline for contention but could really appeal to Gruden and his defensive coaching staff. The veteran linebacker is overpaid, but he can step right in and be an impact starter for Las Vegas in 2021.

Mariota for Mosley would be a swap of two relatively big-name players who really need a change of scenery to kick start their respective careers. The odds are stacked against the two franchises making this sort of challenge trade, but it could benefit everyone involved.
