Young Chicago White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech is motivated to get his career going and is driven by the birth of his son.

It’s been a long two years off the bump for young Chicago White Sox hurler Michael Kopech. The 24-year-old pitcher missed all of 2019 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery and then didn’t play last season after opting out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, Kopech is fired up to get going in Spring Training and is chomping at the bit to see some regular season action. While speaking with with members of the media over the weekend, Kopech made it quite clear how much he’s missed the game and there’s one thing in particular that’s driving him to be better.

Michael Kopech is eager to make his first start after missing two years of action

As you can see from Kopech’s quote above, he’s motivated to absolutely crush it on the field in honor of his son. This past January, Kopech and his family welcomed a boy named River to this world, his first child. It was a life-changing experience for the righty, and he wants to make sure he’s able to make his boy proud.

As you might imagine, Kopech wants to get back to his best form not only for himself, but also his son. He understands that his life is no longer the same now that he’s a dad. With that said, Kopech understands the amount of pressure he has now that he’ll have a child watching him play for the rest of his days in the bigs.

When we last saw Kopech on the hill in 2018, he went 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA in four starts. Come 2021, he’ll look to put on a show to impress White Sox fans, but more importantly, to make his family proud of him.
