Duke and Syracuse are set to square off in a critical bubble matchup for the ACC.

The bubble landscape in the ACC was shaken up in a big way this week following Duke’s dramatic upset of Virginia on Saturday night. The one-point win was by far the best of the season for the Blue Devils and may be enough to elevate them right back into the bubble conversation.

The big key for Mike Krzyzewski’s team on Saturday was finding a way to shoot 51 percent against the Cavaliers’ Pack Line defense, an impressive figure against a team that yields just 60.3 points per game. It wasn’t an aesthetically pleasing win for Duke to say the least, but it is significant progress for a team whose best win prior to this was a home triumph over Clemson.

The race to potentially claim the ACC’s seventh bid to the NCAA Tournament could be significantly influenced by tonight’s matchup between the Blue Devils and the Syracuse Orange. The resumes for both programs are remarkably similar as the Orange have a marquee win on the board in the form of a convincing home victory over Virginia Tech with a stack of average to mediocre victories surrounding it.

Syracuse has mostly taken care of business in the ACC, entering this game on a three-game winning streak, including Saturday’s eight-point home win over Notre Dame. Buddy Boeheim went off for the Orange in the game, scoring 29 points on a 10-of-19 shooting performance that included six three-pointers.

These two teams have very similar resumes at this juncture of the season, making this game one of the bigger contests on the board for bubble watchers. The winner will have a clear edge over the loser in the form of this head-to-head result, making it a true must-win for both the Blue Devils and Orange.
