Oklahoma football player Spencer Jones nearly lost his eye in a bar fight.

Two weekends ago, Oklahoma football player Spencer Jones got into bar fight and nearly lost his left eye in the bathroom brawl.

A video surfaced of the bar fight between the redshirt senior wide receiver and holder and another bar patron. This verbal altercation turned fight took place late into the night between Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14. Jones was repeatedly hit in the face and put into a chokehold. He underwent a four-hour outpatient surgery to rebuild the orbital bone around his eye on Feb. 16.

This remains an ongoing investigation in Norman

Jones had to delay his reconstructive surgery for a few days for the swelling to go down. His lawyer Woodrow “Woody” Glass spoke on behalf of his client about how the surgery went.

“Dr. Brooks came out of that surgery saying he’s extraordinarily lucky at this point, that he’s lucky he didn’t lose the eye altogether,” said Glass. “And so he was able to do some things surgically to rebuild that orbital socket and thinks everything is eventually going to come back to normal, but it’s going to take a while for him to fully recover.”

While Glass says this is an ongoing investigation, he would not discuss the matter further than saying his client was trying to be a peacekeeper of sorts before the bathroom brawl went down. “He was trying to de-escalate that situation,” said Glass. “But unfortunately, it wasn’t de-escalated despite his best efforts, and he became the victim of this vicious assault you’ve seen.”

Here is to a speedy recovery for the Oklahoma receiver and holder.
