Oklahoma football: Sooners lose another receiver to transfer portal

Oklahoma football is losing another receiver to the transfer portal with Theo Howard leaving the program.

Theo Howard is looking for a new home, again. The redshirt senior came to Oklahoma football from UCLA after playing three seasons. While at UCLA, he caught 119 passes for 1,359 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Ironically enough, his last home start came against the Sooners, where he saw his streak of 28-games with a reception end. He missed most of that season with a hand injury and had to redshirt.

This time around, the transfer has to do with playing time. Last season, Howard only caught 13 passes for 163 yards. He played in 10 games despite being hampered by an Achilles injury during the 2019 season.

He joins Charleston Rambo and Trevon West as receivers who transferred from the Big 12 power. Rambo transferred to Miami. It is still unknown where Howard will land, but he’ll be looking for a program where he can get a good portion of targets and catches.

His numbers didn’t make a dent in the stat sheet. Marvin Mims and Theo Wease received most of the Sooners’ offensive production. They combined for 74 catches, 960 yards, and 13 touchdowns.

Can Theo Howard find a program where he can break out?

Howard is a former four-star recruit out Westlake High School in California. Unfortunately, the Oklahoma football wide receiver room is too crowded for him to truly make an impact.

According to Sooners Wire Brianna Dix, Howard was buried on the depth chart behind Mims, Wease, Trejon Bridges and Jadon Haselwood. In a best-case scenario, he could have competed for the No. 3 spot.
