2021 NBA Mock Draft 1.0: Cleveland Cavaliers swing big at No. 1
By Ian Levy
The Bulls’ are beginning to come into focus — Zach LaVine made a legitimately compelling All-Star case, Coby White is building on a strong rookie season, Patrick Williams is already a plus contributor and both Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter looked improved when they were on the floor. Thad Young and Otto Porter Jr. are likely to be moved at the deadline for something of future value or some measure of flexibility. The core is in place and space is opening for complementary pieces to be slotted in around them.
Garuba certainly looks like a complementary piece. He’s a big undersized for a full-time 5 but he compensates with fantastic strength and activity and he has no problem working as a deterrent at the rim. He doesn’t have much stretch to his game but he’s a very good passer and finisher in the paint who should be a legit threat in the pick-and-roll. Between his two-way potential and supporting skill sets, he’d be an ideal third-big working around Markkanen, Carter and Williams’ minutes at the 4.
