2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints 7-round mock
By Nick Villano
Chuba Hubbard was once one of the most coveted backs in the country. He led everyone in rushing in 2019, but 2020 was an abject disaster for him. There were times when his backup looked better than him on the field. The Oklahoma State Cowboys lost their lead on the Big 12 and didn’t even end up making the championship game.
However, it’s a fact that Hubbard is one of the most talented backs in this class. The running back class is already stacked, so Hubbard had his word cut out for him. While it hurt his draft stock, maybe falling to a good team like the Saints might be best for the long-term career options.
The Saints already have Kamara as the lead back for a long time, but Hubbard could be the thunder to his lightning. Latavius Murray is likely going to be a cap casualty. Hubbard is another player who can walk onto the field and contribute today to a Super Bowl contender.
Hubbard is a big name for what he’s done on the field in 2019, but after a rough season, he gets to fly under the radar in the NFL. That could lead to the Saints getting another gem at the position in the later rounds. Hubbard comes with some durability concerns, but there’s no denying 2,094 yards that he had in one season.
