Ty Simpson will play his college ball for Nick Saban’s Alabama football program.

The Alabama Crimson Tide got a huge commitment for the 2022 class on Friday afternoon, as five-star quarterback Ty Simpson picked the Alabama football team over the Clemson Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels and Tennessee Volunteers.

Simpson is the son of UT-Martin Skyhawks head coach Jason Simpson. According to the 247Sports Composite, Simpson is the No. 2 player from Tennessee, the No. 3 pro-style quarterback and the No. 27 overall recruit nationally in the 2022 class. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound signal-caller from Martin, Tennessee had 37 offers at the time of his Alabama commitment.

“What stuck out to me with them was one their culture and two their player development,” said Simpson to 247Sports on why he chose Alabama over Clemson, Ole Miss and Tennessee. “They get their players ready for the NFL and the NFL is a dream of mine and I’m going to a place where they have NFL coaches in there every day that can make me the best player I can be.”

“They’re going to get the best out of everybody who’s there. They’re going to play the best players and that’s going to help you throughout your career, being in there with Bill O’Brien and Coach (Doug) Marrone and Coach Saban and his ties to Coach Bill Belichick, being able to learn from the greats like that would be awesome.”

Ty Simpson is a significant win for Alabama and a massive loss for Tennessee

While it would have been interesting to see Simpson sling it for Lane Kiffin in Oxford or back up D.J. Uiagalelei for two years at Clemson, his recruitment really felt like a recent rendition of the Third Saturday in October. As expected, the results were the same. Alabama proved victorious over cross-divisional rival Tennessee. Getting Simpson to commit would have been big for Josh Heupel.

What Simpson’s commitment to Alabama shows us is blue-chip prospects coming out of high school all want the same thing. They want to go to a program that can get them ready for the NFL. Alabama is a pro football factory based on inferred excellence and relentless competition. It is a testament to what Nick Saban has built in the last decade and a half while at Tuscaloosa.

As Simpson’s commitment makes Alabama stronger, it proves Tennessee to be an afterthought.
