Alabama basketball: This stat about Tide’s SEC dominance is unbelievable
By John Buhler
The Alabama basketball program is certainly keeping pace with the football team this season.
Nate Oats’ Alabama basketball team improved to 19-6 on the year, as the No. 6 Crimson Tide defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 64-59 in Starkville on Saturday night.
With this narrow victory over Mississippi State, Alabama improves to 14-2 in SEC play this year. If you were to combine that with what the football team did on the gridiron back in the fall, Alabama has gone an utterly ridiculous 24-2 during the SEC regular season. Nick Saban’s team defeated the Florida Gators in the 2020 SEC Championship, in case you wanted to add another W to the ledger.
Alabama has dominated the competition in SEC play this academic year
With only two more games left in conference play, Alabama has clinched a 2020-21 SEC Championship for the regular season. The Crimson Tide’s only two conference losses this season were at then-No. 18 Missouri on Feb. 6 and at No. 20 Arkansas on Wednesday night. While going 10-0 in SEC football is more impressive, you cannot deny what Oats’ team has done this year.
Very rarely do you get both major men’s programs humming at the same time. While the Crimson Tide have had success on the hardwood before, the football team is arguably the greatest program in the history of the sport. Though Saban winning national title No. 6 in Tuscaloosa back in January was incredible, Oats’ squad may have a national title run in them for all we know, too.
Alabama may forever be a football school, but it now has a darn good basketball program as well.
