Baylor basketball looks to remain undefeated when the Bears take on Bill Self’s Kansas basketball team in a Big 12 showdown.

The college basketball season has seen two teams in pursuit of perfection. While Gonzaga’s race for an undefeated record and a spot on the top line at the NCAA Tournament has been smooth, Baylor nearly hit a pothole in their return from a COVID pause this week.

The Bears struggled mightily with Iowa State, which entered the matchup with a 2-16 record that included an 0-13 mark in Big 12 play. The Cyclones gave Baylor everything they could handle, building a five-point lead at the half before the Bears came back to win by five.

It is hard to blame Baylor for the sluggish performance after missing three weeks due to a COVID pause, but their schedule down the stretch is rough. Four games separate the Bears from a perfect regular-season record, beginning with a difficult road trip to Allen Fieldhouse to take on Kansas.

The Jayhawks have recovered nicely from a rough start to the season and re-entered the polls on the strength of a five-game winning streak. That run came to an end in Austin on Tuesday as the Longhorns topped Kansas 75-72 in overtime, completing a rare season sweep of the Jayhawks in the process.

The performance raised more questions about how much upside Kansas ultimately has in the NCAA Tournament, which could be limited by what kind of opponent that the Jayhawks draw in the early rounds. Picking up a win over the Bears would be a massive confidence boost for the Jayhawks, who are set to wrap their regular season today and will be off for over a week headed into the Big 12 Tournament.

These two teams already met once this season with Baylor picking up a 77-69 win in Waco. The Bears know they are capable of winning at Allen Fieldhouse after topping the Jayhawks there by 12 last season, a fact that should make this contest extremely interesting.
