The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a rather embarrassing Super Bowl 55 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even with limited cap space, here are three free agents they should target.

The Kansas City Chiefs are nearly a month removed from losing Super Bowl 55 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and are probably still stewing over it. Now, they have to do the work and make some important roster decisions to ensure they can make it to the big game for a third-consecutive year.

Kansas City’s main issue is that they are currently $23.7 million over the salary cap threshold, per Over the Cap. But that can be rectified through some cuts or contract restructuring. However, they won’t be able to fish for the top players on the market. Even so, they can still some great players on a considerable bargain.

Here are three free agents the Chiefs should sign in the 2021 league year.

The Chiefs do need to add some help to their defensive line and add to their pass rush. Given their cap space limitations, they won’t be able to contend top-tier edge rushers on the open market such as Shaquill Barrett, Bud Dupree and Trey Hendrickson. Luckily for the Chiefs, there is a consistently good pass rusher on the market in Ryan Kerrigan.

It is kind of impossible to fathom that the Washington Football Team would let Kerrigan walk to free agency, especially with Ron Rivera as head coach. The problem is that Washington’s defensive line is stacked with Chase Young, Jonathan Allen, Montez Sweat and Daron Payne at their disposal. With all that talent, Kerrigan was reduced to a backup role, where he started just one game.

Throughout his 10-year career, Kerrigan has proven himself to be one of the underrated pass rushers in the game. In fact, Kerrigan has sacked the quarterback at least 5.5 times per season. That’s good.

Kerrigan would be a great fit in Kansas City with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Coming off the edge alongside Frank Clark and with Chris Jones disrupting the interior of the line of scrimmage. That would be a solid, under-the-radar signing by the Chiefs if they were to pursue Kerrigan.
