The Dolphins head into the 2021 NFL Draft with two first round selections. Here are five players Miami might land on Day One.

There’s a cogent argument to be made that the Dolphins have the ability to control Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft. Currently, they have two picks at their disposal. The No. 3 overall selection looks like a prime trade target for teams looking to move up and land a quarterback. Miami also can use the No. 18 pick to add talent to their intriguing young roster.

The big question the Dolphins front office needs to answer before the draft ever begins is how comfortable they are with Tua Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback. The underwhelming finish to his rookie campaign has his future with Miami in doubt. In particular, trade rumors linking him with a move to the Texans that would bring Deshaun Watson back to the Dolphins have run rampant in recent weeks.

If the team is content to move forward with Tua under center, finding him another playmaker to work with should be a big priority in the draft. Increasing the quality of pass protection in front of him would also be a wise investment.

A trade at No. 3 is a distinct possibility for the Dolphins, but if they stay put they might consider taking a new signal-caller to replace Tagovailoa.

5. Justin Fields

The odds strongly favor Tagovailoa starting the 2021 campaign as Miami’s starter. There is a chance the Dolphins shock the world and make a big change at the game’s most important position. If they don’t believe in Tua for the long haul, selecting Fields at No. 3 would give them another shot at landing a star quarterback.
