Les Miles could be on the way out as the Kansas football coach. He is being placed on administrative leave while the University of Kansas conducts its own investigation.

The Kansas football program could be looking for a new head coach with Les Miles being placed on administrative leave.

Kansas is conducting its own internal investigation in the aftermath of USA Today’s expose of the sexual misconduct probe done by Miles’ previous employer LSU back in 2013. An email has surfaced of former LSU athletic director Joe Alleva asking for the incoming university president to part ways with Miles in April 2013. LSU did nothing, waiting to fire Miles for performance in 2016.

The can of worms surrounding Miles and the LSU scandal has been busted open

Alleva’s plea to terminate Miles back in 2013 was disregarded by the incoming administration. Yes, it would have been messy firing a head coach when he was two seasons removed from an SEC Championship and a national title appearance. However, it looks so, so much worse nearly a decade after the fact. LSU already had to sit out bowl season due to ongoing cultural issues.

A reason the Jayhawks have not fired Miles yet must be because of the implications of his buyout. Obviously, athletic director Jeff Long and the university will need to conduct their own investigation to see if any of the same bad culture made its way to Lawrence with Miles. All the while, the Jayhawks haven’t won much under the head coach.

It feels like a foregone conclusion that Kansas will have a new head coach for the 2021 season.
