Illinois basketball looks to wrap up the final No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a win over Ohio State in their regular-season finale.

The Big Ten has been a beast all season long and the league has a legitimate chance to land two teams on the top line in the NCAA Tournament. Two of those teams are set to square off in Columbus this afternoon as Illinois takes on Ohio State.

The Fighting Illini looks like they’re on their way to that final top seed and made an emphatic statement this week by blowing out Michigan 76-53 in Ann Arbor. That win came without the services of star guard Ayo Dosunmu, who missed the game as a result of being in the concussion protocol, a monstrous performance that put Illinois on the map as a national title contender.

The most impressive aspect of the win over the Wolverines was how dominant the Illini were from the jump. Illinois played like a team possessed and clearly wanted the game more than Michigan did, a hunger they will look to carry into today’s season finale against Ohio State.

The Buckeyes have been off this week, which is a good thing as Chris Holtmann’s group looked like it needed a break after a three-game losing streak. Prior to the skid, Ohio State was holding onto that final spot on the top line, a position they will look to regain with a win over the Illini on Senior Day.

It’s not clear if Dosunmu will be cleared to suit up for this game but the prudent move for Illinois would be to play it safe since there are bigger games coming in the near future. Dosunmu’s absence would create an opportunity for Ohio State to take advantage of his absence and grab this monster victory.
