South Carolina football fans everywhere can’t wait for spring camp to arrive to see if a quarterback can separate himself in the starting battle.

Folks, believe it or not, college football is almost back in our lives. The calendar reads early March, and spring camp is right around the corner. In the SEC, there are countless storylines, but for new South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer, the quarterback battle will steal countless headlines leading up to Week 1.

With that in mind, spring ball will be a huge chance for several signal-callers to separate themselves in hopes of leading the offense out onto the field for Week 1. So, who’s in the running entering the spring session?

Three quarterbacks are ready to battle it out for the starting job at South Carolina

As things stand, it’s looking like a three-way battle between Luke Doty, Shane Brown and Colten Gauthier. On paper, though, you’d figure Doty would have the clear advantage over the other two signal-callers.

That’s because the former wideout ended the season as South Carolina’s starter. In 2020, he threw for 405 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the last three games of the campaign (he saw limited action at quarterback before that).

With Brown, he’s a transfer from FCS Saint Francis, while Gauthier is a 2021 signee who has arrived to campus as an early enrollee. While getting a head start to his college career is big for him, Gauthier is still a true freshman and there will undoubtedly be some growing pains along the way.

Regardless, it looks like this quarterback battle is completely wide open, and one of these three players will have the chance to make a name for himself during camp. We can’t wait to see who ends up landing the job.
