Vikings blew it by not trading Anthony Harris when they had the chance

The Minnesota Vikings should have traded star safety Anthony Harris when they had the chance instead of letting him walk in free agency. 

Time and time again, Minnesota Vikings fans saw Anthony Harris’ name floated in trade rumors, yet the team never made a move with him and saw him play out the final year of his contract this past season. The hope was the two sides could potentially get a long-term deal done instead.

Well, that doesn’t look to be happening and it looks like Harris will be suiting up next season with a new team, as Minnesota also declined to place the franchise tag on him. Now, all Vikings fans can do is sit back and wonder what in the heck the front office was thinking.

With the team making the decision to not place the franchise tag on Harris, that means he’s all set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Yup, he can now sign with any team that he wants in the near future.

When Minnesota was looking to deal him, they could have at least gotten some NFL Draft picks in return for Harris. By holding on to him and trusting things would work out at the end of the season, the Vikings have gotten nothing in return and will now likely see Harris sign elsewhere and make standout plays for a different team.

This past campaign, the veteran safety started all 16 regular season games, posting a head-turning 104 total tackles, while adding seven pass deflections. He’s been a standout for Minnesota since joining the team in 2015, but supporters can now expect him to take his talents elsewhere, which is no doubt frustrating.
