Duke basketball won its first ACC Tournament game and needs to keep winning on Wednesday against Louisville.

The ACC Tournament is underway and the Duke Blue Devils got their stay in Greensboro off to a rollicking start. The Blue Devils pulled away from Boston College yesterday, routing the Eagles 86-51 to effortlessly advance to the second round of the conference tournament.

Mike Krzyzewski’s team took advantage of Boston College’s questionable defense, shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and knocking down 15 three-point attempts to run away from a bad Eagles’ team. That effort won’t be enough to help the 12-11 Blue Devils become one of the teams to represent the ACC in the NCAA Tournament, making a deep run in Greensboro a necessity.

The next game on the docket for the No. 10 seeded Blue Devils is tonight’s contest with Louisville, the No. 7 seed in the ACC bracket. The Cardinals have had their way with Duke this season, sweeping a pair of regular-season meetings, including an overtime win at Cameron Indoor Stadium in late February that helped to knock the Blue Devils off the bubble.

Carlik Jones took over for Louisville in that game, scoring 25 points and recording some huge buckets down the stretch to help the Cardinals walk out of Durham with a win. Both matchups have been tight games, with Louisville winning by a combined 12 points over the course of both games.

This contest is also important for Louisville, whose potential NCAA Tournament seeding took a hit with a bad loss to Virginia to end the regular season. The Cardinals can still get to the dance if they lose this game, which isn’t the case for Duke, which has to keep winning to have any shot at extending their streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances to 25.
