The expectation is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be full-swing come the start of the 2021 season.

Dak Prescott didn’t “bet” on himself in 2020. Instead, he just saw it as an opportunity to up his payday in 2021. Although he played in a mere five games, it was enough to show Jerry Jones he needed a new deal.

The Dallas Cowboys and Prescott agreed to a new deal that will keep him in Dallas until 2024. Press cowboy earn up to $164 million over the next four seasons with a $75 million paid in 2021 and a $66 million signing bonus, making it the highest deal in NFL history.

Prescott, 27, showed how valuable he was to Dallas’ offense within the first quarter of the 2020 season. Not only did he lead the NFL in passing yards, but the Cowboys fell flat following his injury. Prescott suffered an ankle fracture-dislocation that required multiple surgeries this offseason.

The attention now turns back to Prescott. Is he 100 percent healthy and ready to return? As of Wednesday, the second-highest-paid quarterback is ready to play Week 1 of the 2021 season.

Can Prescott and the Cowboys finally win a Super Bowl?

Since being selected No.135 overall, there’s been doubt surrounding Prescott ‘s potential. Jones almost consider taking Paxton Lynch from Memphis or Connor Cook from Michigan State early on in the 2016 NFL Draft. Instead, they focused their needs elsewhere and settled on Prescott later.

Dallas got lucky. Extremely lucky. Now, they had to pay up for it.

The Cowboys went to the postseason two times in five years under Prescott. They were a game away from representing the NFC East in 2020, but a fall out from the office in Week 17 to the New York Giants cost them their opportunity.

Dallas went 4-5 without Prescott to close out the season. They threw one touchdown in the first three weeks with a mix of names under center due to injuries or COVID-19 protocol.

Prescott has started 69 games over five years for Dallas. He’s yet to have a losing season as the team’s starting quarterback. Without the injury, perhaps the Cowboys could have found their rhythm by midseason and thrived on their way to the postseason.

Instead, all will have to prove they are cleared to play once more.

Dallas now has their No.1 2019 offense fully healthy again. Can they duplicate that same success two years later?
