Illinois basketball can advance to the Big Ten championship game with a win over Iowa this afternoon.

The Big Ten Tournament semifinals are a true heavyweight fight as four of the nation’s top 10 teams are set to square off in Indianapolis. Positioning on the top two lines in the NCAA Tournament is on the line all day, including this matchup between Illinois and Iowa.

The Fighting Illini have surged down the stretch, using a run of 12 wins in their past 13 games to capture the final spot on the top line ahead of Selection Sunday. Rutgers was no match for Illinois in yesterday’s quarterfinal matchup as the Illini blew out the Scarlet Knights in a 90-68 rout.

Ayo Dosunmu had a highly-efficient game for Illinois, scoring 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting to help the Illini punch their ticket to the semifinal round. That game brings with it another showdown with Iowa, which is also surging heading into March.

The Hawkeyes picked up their second straight win over Wisconsin last night, beating the Badgers 62-57 in a classic Big Ten slugfest. Luka Garza led all scorers with 24 points for Iowa while also contributing nine rebounds in the win.

The winner of this game will take on either Michigan or Ohio State in the final tomorrow afternoon. This matchup may be billed as the undercard to the first clash but it should be a quality basketball game to cap an outstanding Big Ten doubleheader.

These teams have also met once this season, with Illinois topping Iowa 80-75 in Champaign back in January. The rematch has a great shot to be close once again.
