According to a Facebook post from his wife on his fan club page, all-time boxing great ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler has passed away at 66 years old.

According to a Facebook post on his official fan club page, former middleweight boxing legend ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler has passed away.

A message was posted on Hagler’s fan club page from his wife Kay Guarrera Hagler at approximately 5:46 p.m ET stating that Hagler had died.

“I am sorry to make a very sad announcement,” read the Facebook post. “Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire. Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time. With love
Kay G. Hagler.”

This news comes suddenly and with little detail. No other reports of Hagler’s death have been announced outside of Mrs. Hagler’s message on Facebook, at the time of this report. The message claims that Hagler died on the same day of the post, Saturday, March 13.

Marvin Hagler was a middleweight great who beat Alan Minter, Roberto Duran, and Thomas Hearns.

Hagler (62-3-2, 52 KOs) was one of the most menacing and successful middleweight boxers of all time. He intimidated opponents with a scowl on his face and heavy fists that scored 52 knockouts, making him one of the most feared boxers in history.

Hagler was born on May 23 in 1954, in Newark, New Jersey. He began his professional boxing career in 1973, winning by knockout in his debut. He went on to win his first world title in 1980 after stopping Alan Minter in round 3 via TKO to win the WBA and WBC middleweight titles.

Hagler defended his titles 12 times over a six-year span, adding the IBF title to his collection. His title run came to an end when he lost to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987 by a controversial split decision. Leonard’s strategy was to outwork Hagler in the last 30 seconds of every round to leave the judges with a favorable impression.

Hagler wanted a rematch with Leonard, but Leonard again retired, and so did Hagler with no other notable foes to conquer.

Hagler went on to have a career as an actor and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993. He will forever be remembered as one of the best punchers and overall boxers in history.
